This bestselling work is the definitive text on globalization. Peter Dicken provides a comprehensive, balanced yet critical account of globalization processes and their sweeping, highly uneven effects on people’s lives. Each chapter reflects current globalization and antiglobalization debates, the latest empirical developments, and new ideas about the shaping and reshaping of production, distribution, and consumption in the world economy. Of special utility are detailed case studies of key global industries and more than 250 specially designed figures and tables. To facilitate use in the classroom, the figures and tables are also available online as PowerPoint slides.

I used this as it was THE text as part of my undergraduate studies. While this book is able to avoid the hype attached to the topic of globalization, the organization and vagueness in certain parts of this book makes it a horrible read especially for students who are using this as part of their academic reading. Yes, while it is informative for general, leisure reading, I think the style of writing is passable but not great.
Personally, I think the sources quoted in certain chapters need to be updated, that a conscious effort was made in making it comprehensible while attempting to summarize it. I would also suggest that more industries are looked into and perhaps industry-specific books be written too. Lastly, if this were to be re-made into a textbook, the author should look at "International Business:the Challenges of Globalization" by Wild. Wild. Han. as a guide in presentation. On another note, I know of students in Australia, US and South East Asia who are using this text - they all hate this book, and some of them are even consistent performers on the Dean's list !

This is the ultimate summarization of globalization. It is thorough, objective, and is able to avoid all the inaccurate hype attached to the topic. It is heavy reading, very information based, but I enjoyed it immensely and suggest it for anyone seeking to understand globalization.
